What I Loved in August

A collection of things I loved in August, from beauty products and fashion to entertainment and everything in between.

I kept seeing these gorgeous candles all over Instagram and knew that one would look perfect in my bedroom. I headed to Otherland’s website and fell in love with their Beach Club collection: Matchpoint (cut grass, tennis balls + cucumber), Freshwater Pearl (sea crystal, salt water + crushed shells) and Stone Fruit (beach plum, brown sugar + peach skin). The hardest part was deciding on a scent, but I ended up choosing Freshwater Pearl since it fit best with being at the beach. The 8oz candle arrived in a decorative box and came with coordinating matches. Words can’t begin to describe how amazing it smells! I’ve decided to use the candle holder’s colors as inspiration for designing my beach bedroom.

Waking up early before everyone else and stepping outside to view the sun glistening on the ocean has been a huge mood shifter. I needed to recharge after I spent months with cabin fever while I was stuck inside my apartment. When the pool was reopened in May, if I wanted to get some sun, I had to make an appointment. Even then, each resident was allowed only an hour per day. Being here at the Connecticut shore (specifically Westbrook), which is a small coastal town on Long Island Sound and disconnecting from the news, has helped me almost forget about Covid.

I ordered a snack box from Amazon, and these blueberry lemon bars were one of the snacks inside. Because they were so tasty, I ended up buying them in bulk while also trying out their Birthday cake and s’mores bars. Those were delicious too, but the blueberry lemon remains my favorite.

This shade of OPI nail polish screams summer. It’s kind of a mix between neon pink and bright orange, which looks amazing with a tan. I’ve been wearing my palm tree ring, and my wave ring and love how seamlessly they go together.

I saw an ad for a limited series starring Christian Slater and Amanda Peet called Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story. To my surprise, there was a season one (which I never heard of) and it was released on Bravo back in 2018. After watching the trailer, I binged-watched the first season in three days. This true crime saga stars Connie Britton, as a wealthy Newport, CA resident who seems to always choose the wrong men. She meets a con artist named John Meehan and at first, she’s oblivious to his ways, however, her family soon realizes he’s not who he says he is and they confront her. She takes some time to accept it and when she finally does she tries to leave him. The ending was not what I expected, and each episode kept me on the edge of my seat. After I was done watching it, I discovered there’s a podcast by the same name which I can’t wait to get into.
